Taylor Swift just released the successful Speak Now less than a year ago, but she’s putting together a new album for 2012. In a recent profile in the New Yorker, however, Swift revealed that the tone of the songs on her upcoming release will be different: "They're sad, if I'm being honest."

So far, the singer has written 10 songs. Regarding their tone, and possibly anticipating fans’ surprised reactions, she told the magazine: “[Life is] about achieving contentment… You’re not always going to be ridiculously happy.”
The New Yorker, additionally, focused on her maturity in songwriting, and as a response, Swift said: "I think retrospect will tell a lot. Years from now, I'll look back and go, 'I didn't know anything then.’ I had this song called 'Picture to Burn' that's talking about how 'I hate your truck' and 'I hate that you ignored me,' 'I hate you.' Now, the way that I would say that and the way that I would feel that kind of pain is a lot different."
Before the still-untitled album comes out, fans can bide their time with Swift’s concert album and DVD, Speak Now World Tour – Live, which hits stores on November 21.
Swift, as well, is going through an A- and B-lister’s rite of passage: introducing a fragrance. Named after a line from song “Enchanted,” Wonderstruck is Swift’s first perfume and, once in stores this month, will be rolled out over the next two years. About the perfume, the singer said: “I share personal life experiences through my music, and my fragrance will allow me to share these experiences with my fans in a completely different and new way. Falling in love is a moment every girl daydreams about and Wonderstruck represents that magical feeling of promise and hope and intrigue. It was fascinating to learn that you can layer so many different scents to create a beautiful end result."
