The screams of a sold-out crowd mostly of females ranging in age from pre-school to college nearly lifted the 19-year-old right off the stage of the BOK Center. On at least two occasions, Swift took a several-minute break in between hit songs to bask in the deafening uproar. "Tulsa, I want you to know that I'm not gonna forget that. Thank you so much," she said, beaming.
Fans weren't just applauding Swift's songs. She may still be one of the youngest stars in the music industry, but she's also one of the biggest and proved she knows how to put on a show from the very first song of the night. She opened with "You Belong With Me," complete with the marching band and cheerleader stunts from her music video for the same song.
Swift's musicians and dancers weren't the only ones in the arena wearing marching band uniforms and cheerleader outfits.
Sisters Kayla Jackson and Nichole York, both from Tulsa, also came to the BOK Center wearing such garb to compete for free tickets in a local radio station contest for the "most spirited" Taylor Swift fans.
They were disappointed to find that radio station officials instead chose the winners in a simple drawing — and their names weren't called.
York, wearing her sister's old cheer uniform from Wilson Middle School, said they were lucky enough to find someone selling tickets to the sold-out concert and their mother paid for them.
"I'm the bigger fan," Jackson said. "She's cool and tall like me — and she can sing."
After Swift's big hit from a couple of years ago, "Our Song," she thanked the crowd once more.
"Thank you for teaching me it doesn't really matter if you didn't have any friends in junior high — when you have a sold-out arena in Tulsa, Oklahoma!" she said.
She sang "Tell Me Why," "Teardrops on My Guitar," "Fearless," and "Forever and Always" and then broke up the next couple of songs with entertaining video clips.
Fans in the rear of the arena got a surprise when the spotlight found Swift among them, where she performed "Hey, Stephen," and then made her way down to a revolving platform on the back of the arena floor for her current single, "15," and her breakout hit, "Tim McGraw."
Things reached a fever pitch when she made it back to the stage for a crowd sing-along of "White Horse" and then the dancers returned in period costumes from Regency England for her performance of the mega-hit fairy tale song, "Love Story."
